Completely in the Canal (CIC)

CIC aids are the smallest type of hearing aid and one that is barely visible once placed in the ear. In most cases, CIC aids are recommended for people who have a mild to moderate hearing loss and an ear canal large enough to accommodate the device. However recent innovations now allow us to reach levels of severe loss that were previosly impossible to fit with CIC hearing aids. Virtually invisible. Custom made for you.

In the Canal (ITC)

Fitting partially within your ear canal and barely visible, ITCs small size makes them nearly invisible, but adjusting them can be more difficult. Many of these models come with remote controls to make adjusting them easier. ITCs are used for adults with mild to moderately severe hearing loss. From this size on, the hearing aids can also be fitted with connectivity for Bluetooth allowing connection to mobile phones, TV’s, MP3’s etc. Less visible. Custom made for you.

In the Ear (ITE)

Full shell models sit flush within the outer ear bowl. Their size allows the maximum number of additional controls and features such as directional microphones, which require space on the outer portion of the instrument. They use a larger battery size than the smaller styles, and can fit a larger receiver with enough power severe hearing losses. There is also the Half-shell option. Custom made for you.

Receiver in the Ear (RITE)

RITE models, also known as RIC (receiver-in-canal) models, are mini BTEs that have the speaker of the instrument incorporated in the ear tip, instead of in the main body of the instrument. RITE instruments fit mild to severe hearing losses. This hearing aid style looks similar to the Mini BTE when worn on the ear. This model is also available with XP receivers allowing a greater fitting range for people with a more severe loss.

Micro BTE

The Mini BTE looks very similar to the RITE models, with the exception that the reciever (speaker) in not on the end of the tube in the ear canal, but is in fact on the actual hearing aid. The sound is conducted via the thin tube into the canal. Mini BTE instruments fit mild to severe hearing losses. This hearing aid style looks similar to the RITEi BTE when worn on the ear. Particulary good for people who must maintained ventilated canal due to a medical reason.


Housed in a small curved case that fits behind your ear and is attached by a narrow tubing to a custom earpiece molded to fit your outer ear, BTEs are the largest, most visible type of hearing aid. But the newer models are slimmer and barely visible. These are typically the strongest hearing aids and are appropriate for almost all types of hearing loss and for people of all ages.

BTEs come in colours to blend with hair or skin tones, and even chrome colours, leopard print and other funky designs to suit personal styles. Different BTE sizes accommodate different features, controls, battery types and degrees of power (larger instruments generally have more power than smaller ones.
